Ever smelt someone’s hair fragrance in the course your morning commute and thought, “How can I make my hair smell like that?” While you may already have a couple of hair essence hacks up your sleeve, perhaps even a perfectly organized perfume collection, chances are you have overlooked your mane in the past. So, want to learn how to make your hair smell divine? Here are seven tips to achieve sensationally scented hair.

GIVE YOUR MANE A REGULAR WASH

The most obvious tip, of course, is to wash your hair regularly. Natural oils, particularly if you have oily hair, can build up and result in a not-so-great scent. In addition to your hair’s natural oils, pollution and dirt, too, can build up on your strands. The solution? A consistent shampoo and conditioner regimen!

KEEP YOUR BRUSHES CLEAN

Yet another item to keep clean is your hair brush or comb. You use your brush each day to untangle knots and keep your hair looking its best, and in the process, distribute your hair’s oils throughout your hair. Some of those oils, plus dirt and pollution, are bound to build up on your brush over time, so be sure to remove hair from between the bristles and clean it every now and again. Soap and warm water does the trick.

MAKE USE OF HAIR PERFUME

In case you were not aware, there are specific fragrances formulated for your strands! We are referring to hair perfume. This hair product is actually meant to give your locks a desirable fragrance without weighing down or damaging your hair. Spray a bit onto your hair brush before combing it through your hair.

REACH FOR DRY SHAMPOO

Dry shampoo can be used to help soak up oils that could lead to an unwanted fragrance. Our tried and tested recommendation is the L’Oréal Paris Magic Tropical Splash Dry Shampoo, which is infused with three refined clays that instantly refresh hair between shampoos for clean-feeling, lightweight hair with no visible residue.

SWITCH TO SCENTED HAIR PRODUCTS

If you don’t have a hair perfume or fragrance on hand, stock your beauty cabinet with scented hair products. From your shampoo and conditioner to a hair mousse, so many hair products come paired with an enticing scent.

PROTECT YOUR STRANDS FROM STRONG ODOURS

Do you work around food all day? Or cross paths with cigarette smoke? Strong scents from your environment can follow you home if you care not to protect your strands. You can do so by simply wearing a hair scarf or head wrap!

WASH YOUR PILLOWCASE AND YOUR HAIR ACCESSORIES

Remember when we talked about the buildup of oils on your hair? Well, the same goes for your pillowcase! Think about it: You go to sleep each night and in turn transfer oils from your mane to your pillowcase—it is bound to add up over time! If you are consistently sleeping on dirty pillowcases, good smelling hair may remain a dream. So, be sure to keep it clean!

Your hair accessories need cleaning, too. This means headbands, head wraps, hair scarves, and hats—especially if they are being worn to the gym!

So there you have it! Practice this and you will be a divine scented rose wherever you go!

  1. Being a chef isn’t easy when it comes to having flowery smelling hair. But I think the ‘lathering’ shampoo trick works. I will try that and the pillowcase tip 😆
